AllGenetics collaborates on the development of microsatellite markers for the viperine snake Natrix maura

AllGenetics' lab specialist Belén Carro and project specialist Neus Marí-Mena have collaborated in a project to develop novel microsatellite markers for the viperine snake Natrix Maura. The work, which was led by French scientists from the Station d'Ecologie Théorique et Expérimentale (CNRS), Hugo Le Chevalier and Fabien Aubret, has just been published in the journal Ecology and Evolution.

In this project, a total number of 19 polymorphic microsatellite loci were identified and developed for Natrix maura. Polymorphism was assessed for 120 individuals sampled across 4 sampling sites from the French Pyrenees Mountains. This resulted in a selection of 14 high‐quality polymorphic markers that will be used by the French team to identify fine‐scale genetic structures and to provide insight into conservation management plans of this species.
