Development of microsatellite markers for different Neotropical Magnolia species using high-throughput sequencing
"AllGenetics proved to be very customer friendly: the communication was quick and clear, they helped us find the optimal fit between their service and our project specifications and they remained helpful by answering questions related to writing out the publication, even years after the development of the 2000 untested primer pairs"
The research team was interested in developing novel microsatellite markers for different Neotropical Magnolia species using high-throughput sequencing. Therefore, they contacted AllGenetics to ask for advice regarding our microsatellite development service.
At AllGenetics, we generated microsatellite-enriched genomic libraries for the species M. lacandonica, M. mayae, M. dealbata, and M. cubensis subsp. acunae. The libraries were sequenced in the Illumina MiSeq platform and the reads containing microsatellite motifs were used as input for primer design.
WFor each of the four species, we delivered 500 untested primer pairs designed at the flanking regions of microsatellite motifs. Then, the research team was able to carry out the biological testing of the primers in individuals from different populations and related species. This research has been published in the journal Heredity.
