“After outsourcing various high-throughput sequencing analyses with AllGenetics, I can say that we are very satisfied with their service. AllGenetics' staff always keep us informed of the progress of the project and are happy to solve all our questions”

Goal

The research team needed to develop novel microsatellite markers for the shrimp Palaemon elegans using high-throughput sequencing. Therefore, they made use of AllGenetics' microsatellite development service.

Approach

Using DNA from one Palaemon elegans individual, we prepared a genome library enriched in four different microsatellites. The library was subsequently sequenced in the Illumina MiSeq platform and the microsatellite-containing reads were selected for primer design. A panel of 94 primer pairs were biologically tested in five different individuals.

Results

We obtained a total number of 21 biologically-tested polymorphic microsatellite markers that can be used to study the genetic diversity, geographic structure, and connectivity of Palaemon elegans populations. This research has been published in the journal Scientific Reports.
