Experts in grapevine genetic improvement through SNP genotyping
Grapevine SNP genotyping service for plant breeding programmes
Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) present a high level of polymorphism and reproducibility and, along with microsatellites, they are preferred markers for DNA fingerprinting and varietal characterisation according to the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV 2011).
With the advent of high-throughput sequencing technologies, it is now possible to identify thousands of SNPs between different breeding lines, varieties, or cultivars of grapevine in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
With our grapevine SNP genotyping service we will sequence the genomes of the individuals under study to identify and call SNPs linked to genes of interest. By doing so, you receive a panel of SNPs which can be used for a number of applications, including:
- Cultivar or varietal fingerprinting and verification of varietal purity.
- Analysis of genetic diversity in breeding lines and cultivars.
- Marker assisted selection (MAS).
- Genome-wide association studies (GWAS).
- Linkage map construction.
How we work
Step 1: We isolate DNA from your grapevine samples.
Step 2: We prepare genomic libraries using the kits recommended by Illumina.
Step 3: We sequence the libraries using the Illumina HiSeq or NovaSeq technologies. Millions of reads per library are obtained in this step.
Step 4: We analyse the high-throughput sequencing data to identify and genotype the selected SNPs in each of the samples analysed.
What you receive
A report with a summary of the methods followed.
The raw high-throughput sequencing files.
The results of the bioinformatic analysis including:
- A table with the alleles called at each locus in each individual.
- A list of gene-associated SNPs.
If you require additional analyses, please let us know and we will do our best to meet your needs.
At no additional cost, our project specialists will be available to you after project delivery. We offer up to five 60-min sessions per project, depending on the project size.
What we need
Your tissue samples which have been appropriately preserved (ethanol, silica gel, frozen, or another suitable preservation method). If required, we provide sampling kits and sampling collection guidelines to ensure that your samples arrive at our lab in optimal conditions.
