Experts in DNA barcoding

Reliable and cost-effective species identifications with our DNA barcoding service

DNA barcoding is the leading method for species-level identification and for the authentication of biological samples. It can identify adult specimens, root or leaf fragments, eggs, larvae, etc. to the species level. Our DNA barcoding service is cost-effective compared to traditional identification methods and it can even be applied when only a small amount of sample is available.

We will be happy to tailor our pipelines to the needs of your research project: for example, whereas our lab team can extract DNA from complex matrices, our bioinformatics team is able to design custom primer pairs for your target organismal groups.

This graph shows the different steps of the AllGenetics' DNA barcoding service. Therefore it shows a typical workflow of a DNA barcoding experiment, including DNA isolation, PCR amplification, sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis.

Step 1

We isolate DNA from your samples. We have adapted different DNA isolation protocols, depending on the starting biological material..

Step 2

We amplify the genomic region of interest (the DNA barcode) using universal or in-house-developed primer pairs.

Step 3

We sequence the PCR products in both directions.

Step 4

We analyse the electropherograms obtained and compare the resulting sequences against reference databases to find the matching species.

For your convenience, we can carry out the entire project or only steps 2, 3, and 4.

What you receive

icon
A report with a summary of the methods followed.
icon
The raw electropherogram files, which will be delivered through our server.

icon
The results of the bioinformatic analysis including your manually-edited sequences in FASTA format, and the results of the species identification. If you require additional analyses, please let us know and we will do our best to meet your needs. We can reconstruct phylogenies from the sequences obtained at AllGenetics and other sequences of interest.

At no additional cost, our project specialists will be available to you after project delivery and during the editorial process of your scientific articles. We offer up to five 60-min sessions per project, depending on the project size.
